Editorial Policy

Upholding the standard of clinical accuracy in digital health.

At ShapeUpAmerica, we believe that health metrics are data points that drive real-world decisions. Our editorial policy ensures that every calculation and explanation on this platform meets high standards of scientific integrity.

1. Sourcing and Accuracy

The ShapeUpAmerica standard requires that every tool in our directory must be derived from a validated, peer-reviewed source. We do not use hidden algorithms. Whether we use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation or the CHADS2 score, the underlying model is a matter of public medical record.

Each tool includes a disclosure of its formula and the specific clinical guidelines (such as WHO, NIH, or AHA) that inform its logic.

2. Integrity and Review

Medicine is an evolving field. To maintain our standard of accuracy, we conduct an annual review of all calculators. If a major health body updates a guideline or threshold, we update the corresponding tool within 30 days.

3. Commercial Independence

We maintain a strict separation between our content and any commercial partnerships. ShapeUpAmerica does not accept funding in exchange for promoting specific metrics or adjusting our calculators to favor specific products. Our loyalty remains solely to the data.

4. Human Review

While our calculators are powered by code, they are verified by humans. We reject the black box approach to health tech. Every piece of explanatory content is reviewed by health communicators to ensure it is accurate and easy to understand.

5. Corrections

Data precision is an ongoing pursuit. If an error is discovered in a formula or description, we correct it immediately. Every tool page lists its Last Updated date to provide users with confidence in the information.
