This assessment provides statistical probability and mathematical interpretation based on validated clinical equations. It is not a diagnostic tool.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a person's weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. It is a simple, inexpensive, and non-invasive surrogate measure of body fat.
Originally developed in the 1830s by Belgian statistician Adolphe Quetelet, BMI was never intended to measure individual health. It was a population study tool. In the 1970s, it was refined as a clinical surrogate for body fatness by Ancel Keys.
For a more complete picture, pair your BMI with a waist circumference measurement. A high BMI with a small waist often indicates high muscle mass rather than high body fat.
